Like most parents, this week has been completely consumed with back-to-school prep. Immunizations, sports physicals, school supply shopping, clothes shopping, forcing kids to read their summer reading lists, trying to schedule haircuts and, in Claire’s case, arranging for her to get highlights next week. She really is my kid.
Meanwhile, Mason is willfully trying to avoid finishing his online driver’s ed course. It’s like the more we remind him, the more stubborn he gets as he inches one percent at a time. I’d admire the commitment if I weren’t so annoyed.
Also, can we talk about how lovely this summer has been, by Texas inferno standards? We were predicted to hit 100 for the first time today. I’m not sure that we actually did. As Leanne Morgan would say, “What in the world?!”
Now, let’s get into this week’s edition of Cooped Up!

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL
Agatha, Finally
I recently realized I’ve never read anything by Agatha Christie, even though I love every book with “the next Agatha Christie” in the reviews. So, I just started And Then There Were None because it’s supposedly the world’s best-selling mystery novel, and more importantly, you don’t have to know anything about her other books or characters. Just dive in and enjoy.
I’m only a few chapters in. Who knew murder could be so polite and so British? (And if you know me, you know I love all things British.)

HIT PLAY
I Can’t Get Enough of Leanne Morgan
On the drive to and from my sister Monica’s house for last week’s casino trip, I binge-listened to all the Leanne Morgan podcast interviews I could find. I love her so much and cannot wait to see her in Dallas next month.
Her conversation with Oprah was great (you know I love me some Oprah!), but I especially loved her episode with Amy Poehler on Amy’s Good Hang podcast. I laughed so hard a few times that I probably looked like a drunk driver on the road!
That said, I tried watching her new show on Netflix. Yikes.

SH!T COOPER SAYS
“Everything before ‘but’ is bullshit.”
– Cooper Koch
When someone says “I don’t mean to be rude, but…” or worse, “Not to be racist, but…” Nope. Everything before that “but” is a bald-faced lie. You absolutely meant to be rude, racist or whatever awful thing you’re pretending just “slipped out.” I don’t mean to call you out, but here we are.

That’s it for this week! Don’t forget that it’s tax-free weekend in a bunch of states, including Texas, starting tomorrow through midnight Sunday. That means clothes, school supplies, shoes and more are sales tax–free, even online. I’ve got like six shopping carts waiting for me to click “complete purchase” tomorrow morning. You don’t have to brave the stores, y’all. Just let the sales come to you.
Bye!
